池田 篤   Jazz Alto Saxophone Player​

1963年横浜生まれ。国立音楽大学にて石渡悠史氏に師事。並行してジャズを土岐英史氏、井上淑彦氏に師事。在学中より同窓の椎名豊(p)五十嵐一生(tp)らとの活動も始め、山下洋輔(p)のグループなどに参加した。85年山野ビッグバンド・ジャズ・コンテストにて優秀ソリスト賞受賞。86年卒業後、池田芳夫(b)藤川義明(as)大口純一郎(p)黒田京子(p)佐山雅弘(p)本田竹広い(p)福村博(tb)五十嵐一生(tp)らの数多くのバンドで活動した。90年渡米。マーカス・ベルグレヴ(tp)との共演を通じて多大な影響を受け、92年には彼のアルバム『Working Together』(Detroit Jazz)に参加した。91,92年スイングジャーナル誌批評家投票で注目のアルト・サックス部門第一位獲得。ジュニア・マンス(p)カーク・ライトシー(p)ジェシー・デイビス(as)らと親交を深め、一時期ピート・イエリン(as)に師事した。

95年帰国。日本での活動を再開し、96年、初リーダー・アルバム『Everybody’s Music』(King Records)を発表。月一回のペースでソロ・サックスの活動も始める。ソロ活動はその後16年間続けられた。
03年より辛島文雄(p)のグループに参加。04年ソロ・サックス・アルバム『かはたれとき』(Objet Café)、05年、細川正彦(p)とのデュオ・アルバム『Interlude』(CMS)を発表。

06年ニューヨークで開催されたIAJE (International Association for Jazz Education)に小曽根真(p)& No Name Hosesの一員として参加。同年、ジェイ・トーマス(tp)小濱安浩(ts)と共にThe East West Allianceを結成し、シアトルで開催されたEarshot Jazz Festivalに出演。07年アルバム『The East West Alliance』(CUG Records)を発表。09年ラロック・ダンテロン国際ピアノ・フェスティバル(フランス)、エディンバラ・ジャズ・フェスティバル(スコットランド)にNo Name Hosesで出演。The East West AllianceでもEarshoto Jazz Festivalをはじめアメリカ西海岸各地をツアーした。4年ぶりに結成された自己のバンドでは辛島文雄(p)岡崎好朗(tp)を擁しライブ・アルバム『Here We Are / Live at Pit Inn』(Pit Inn Music)を発表。10年The East West Allianceの2ndアルバム『Band of Brothers』(CUG Records)を発表。12年初頭より大病を患い療養生活を送るが、13年には2枚目のソロ・サックス・アルバム『The Embrace of Life』(CUG Records)を発表しジャズシーンに復帰した。The East West Allianceの3rdアルバム『Flame of Peace』も発表。

20年、3枚目のソロ・サックス・アルバム『Spiralソロ・サックス・アット岡本太郎記念館』(Days of Delight)を発表。21年3月には自身のレーベル「Music Flower」より第一弾のアルバム『Free Bird』(Music Flower)を発表。

国立音楽大学 演奏創作・創作学科ジャズ専修准教授、ルーツ音楽院サックス科講師。

ATSUSHI IKEDA   Jazz Alto Saxophones Player

 

Born in Yokohama, on Feb.19 in 1963.

Specialized in saxophone at Kunitachi College of Music.

Learned saxophone studies from Yushi Ishiwata and jazz lessons from Hidefumi Toki and Toshihiko Inoue.

While a student, began to perform with Yutaka Shiina(p), Issei Igarashi(tp), who were students at the same college, at jazz clubs in Tokyo. 

At the same time, participated in the group of Yosuke Yamashita(p).

In 1985, won “The Excellent Performance Soloist Prize”at Yamano Big Band Jazz Contest.
In 1986 after graduating from the college, played as a member of so many groups such as Yoshio Ikeda(b), Issei Igarashi(tp), Junichiro Ohguchi(p), Takehiro Honda(p), Masahiro Sayama(p), Kyoko Kuroda(p), Hiroshi Fukumura(tb) and so on, as well as played by his own group.

 

In 1990, went to USA. Played with Marcus Belgrave(tp). Was greatly influenced by him, and played on his album, “Working Together”.

In 1991 and 1992 won the first prize among the alto saxophone players at Critic poll under the sponsorship of Swing Journal.

In 1993, released the album “Be Free And Strong”, played by “Inside Out”, the Japanese group staying in NYC. Had gigs at Blue Note, Sweet Basil, and so on. 

Received favorable reviews Deepened friendships with Junior Mance(p) Kirk Lightsey(p) Wynton Marsalis(tp) and Jesse Davis(as). Learned temporarily from Pete Yellin(as).

 

In 1995 came back to Japan. Began having solo saxophone concerts once a month.

In 1996 the first leader album, “Everybody's Music”was released by King Records . 
On the album Marcus Belgrave(tp), Stefon Harris(vib), Dwayne Burno(b), and Junji Hirose(d) played together.

 

In 1999 went on a solo tour “a solitary journey”. In 2002 had solo concert in Kyoto. Won good reputations.

In 2003 participated in Fumio Kashima(p)'s group.

In 2004 my solo saxophone album “Kahataretoki”was released by Objet Cafe.

In 2005 released the duo album with Masahiko Hosokawa(p), “Interlude”.

In 2006 organized the Japan-U.S unit, “The East West Alliance”, including Jay Thomas(tp,ts) ,who lives in Seattle, and Yasuhiro Kohama(ts). This band performed tours of various places in American West Coast including Earshoto Jazz Festival in 2006 and 2009.

In 2007 “The East West Alliance” was released by CUG Records. 

Went for USA and Europe tour as a member of Makoto Ozone(p) & No Name Horses in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
In 2009 released the live album “Here We Are - Live at Shinjuku Pit Inn”, On the album Fumio Karashima(p), Go Shimada), Toru Takahashi(d), and Yoshiro Okazaki(tp) played together.
In 2010 “Band Of Brothers” that is second album of The East West Alliance was released by CUG Records.

In 2012 suffered from illness, but returned to the jazz sceane with the release of the solo album“The Embrace of Life” in 2013. And The East West Alliance was released third album “Flame of Peace”.

In 2020 solo album “Spiral” was released by Days of Delight.

In March 2021 “Free Bird” will be released from my own label “Music Flower”.

Currently an associate professor at Kunitachi College of Music.
